Kumho Tyre has become the exclusive race tyre supplier for TCR Australia with the tyre brand stepping up its involvement in the fastest growing sedan racing category in a number of key regional and national TCR championships around the world.
As well as Kumho becoming the exclusive tyre supplier for TCR Australia it has also gained the supply rights for the TCR South America and TCR Middle East regions and the national TCR championships in Brazil and Finland.
Kumho Tire CEO Iltaik Jung announced that the company had gained the various rights from the start of season 2023 onwards.
Touring Car Racing (TCR) is property of the World Sporting Consulting (WSC) Group, which leads the global touring car racing competition and the formula has expanded its global influence year on year since the international competition was first launched in 2015.
The FIA (Féderation Internationale de l'Automobile), the World governing body of motor sports has adopted the TCR competition and certified its regulations.
TCR cars are powered by a 2.0-litre turbo engine with a maximum output of 350 horsepower mated to a sequential gearbox with 25 homologated models from 16 car manufacturers currently certified by WSC for TCR competition.
All vehicles in the various TCR series, including the Audi RS 3 LMS TCR, Honda Civic Type R TCR, Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, and Hyundai Elantra N TCR, use the Kumho 'ECSTA S700,' slick for dry racing or ECSTA W701 wet racing tyre for wet conditions, both of which deliver excellent grip and stability, as well as handling performance in racing conditions.
Kumho Tyre has been exclusively supplying TCR Europe, TCR Eastern Europe, TCR Denmark, and TCR Spain since 2022, proving the technology and quality, including grip performance and handling.
In addition, Kumho Tire plans to supply tyres exclusively to the five new competitions including in Australia this year to increase its brand value through continuous participation and sponsorship in global motorsports competitions.
Marcello Lotti, chairman of the WSC Group, said, it selected tyre companies that supply the TCR series and have exclusive supply contracts.
“Kumho Tyre is highly recognized for its technology and quality through objective performance evaluations. As a result, they have been named official partner in some of TCR major series around the globe, including TCR Australia and TCR South America from this year," Lotti said.
Janghyuk Yoon (John Yoon), senior vice president of Global Marketing at Kumho Tyre, said, the company was delighted to participate in the world's best motorsports competitions, such as TCR Australia.
"Since 2022, Kumho has been selected as a partner to supply racing tyres exclusively and is recognised for its technology in global motorsports competitions," Yoon said.
