KUMHO TYRE INVESTS HEAVILY IN LARGER, MORE EFFICIENT VICTORIAN DISTRIBUTION CENTRE TO MEET DEMANDS
Kumho Tyre Australia has opened a new, larger and more efficient tyre distribution centre in Melbourne, to cater for the growing demand for tyres in the Victorian market.
The new centre, which is located just off the Princes Motorway near Packenham in Melbourne's far south-east, has been commissioned to enable Kumho Tyre to answer the rapidly growing demand, particularly for 4x4 and EV tyres, which has seen the need for more stock lines to satisfy the market.
The new Kumho Tyre Australia Victorian distribution centre has a capacity of more than 180,000 tyres, ensuring it can maintain stock levels to always have tyres available to satisfy demand.
The ever increasing range of vehicles, tyre types and patterns as well as the fact that Kumho tyre is planning to fulfill the increasing demand for EV specific tyres has driven the company to expand its distribution facilities.
Victorian State Manager for Kumho Tyre Australia, Alan Knight said that the Victorian market is continuing to grow and it is vital to have a highly efficient and quality facility to ensure reliable and swift delivery of tyres to and from the new distribution centre out to dealers.
"The demand for tyres to address the changing vehicle market, including the arrival of the latest crop of EVs and new Chinese brands, has meant we need to carry more products, more often," said Knight.
"With the ever-increasing range of vehicles and tyre patterns now available, Kumho will now be able to stock a higher percentage of EV compatible tyres.
"As an example, last month 48 per cent of all new vehicles sold in Australia were EV, Hybrid or PHEV, so that is part of the rationale for a major investment in new warehousing in Victoria," said Knight.
The proximity of the new facilities to the main trunk route freeway into Melbourne and from there to regional centres around the state will enable Kumho to rapidly distribute and deliver tyre stocks to its wide-spread dealer network.
The new 180,000 tyre Kumho Tyre Victorian distribution centre has increased available storage space by more than 60 per cent from 10,000sq. metre at the company's previous distribution centre in Dandenong South to more than 16,000sq. metres at the new facility.
The new warehouse also features specially designed high ceilings, along with an increased number of loading docks to help fulfil orders faster and to load trucks more efficiently for delivery around the state, particularly for rapid entry and exit from the nearby motorway.
The new Victorian Kumho Tyre distribution centre supercedes the company's previous 12 year old 130,000 tyre facility at Dandenong South which was only opened in 2014.
In 2022 Kumho Tyre Australia relocated its national headquarters, alongside an all new larger NSW distribution centre on a greenfield site at Marsden Park in Sydney’s north-west, followed by a new Queensland distribution centre at Willawong in Brisbane’s south-west, while it also opened a new 8,500sq. metre Perth distribution centre in WA in early 2015. There are also plans to expand the presence in South Australia during 2027.
