It's What's On The Inside That Counts

Kumho Terminology

PATTERN NAME

Kumho's product naming system. The 'K' stands Kumho, the 'U' for ultra high performance, 'H' for High Performance, and the number represents the serial number. Eg. KU31

TREAD

Kumho's extensive range of tread patterns cater for all types of driving and drivers. Tread patterns are designed with different features which deliver different benefits.

An asymmetric tread design delivers outstanding performance in both wet and dry conditions with a combination of different tread patterns across the tyre. Asymmetric tyres are often fitted as original equipment on prestige high performance cars as they deliver both performance and comfort (smooth ride).

A non-directional tread pattern delivers low noise levels and a quiet ride. This pattern type is popular as original equipment on new vehicles.

A directional tread pattern delivers high wet weather performance whilst sacrificing some of the quiet ride characteristics of the non directional pattern. Directional tyres are popular with sports car enthusiasts.

WEAR INDEX

Based on the treadwear rating as set by the manufacturer (typically between 200 to 400), which can be found on the tyre sidewall. The higher the number the higher expected tread life.

WET PERFORMANCE / DRY PERFORMANCE

Testing by Kumho tyres at their research and development facilities, each tyre is rated in both wet and dry performance.

NOISE

Kumho extensively test for tyre noise at their research and development facilities and rate each tyre in regard to noise characteristics.

IDEAL APPLICATION

Basically outlines what application each of the tyres have been designed for, and to whom they would best suited.

ESCOT TECHNOLOGY

A new tyre building technology that sustains high performance of the tyre by maintaining its shape throughout the speed range. Ground contact pressure distribution is enhanced leading to optimised handling, braking and prolonged tyre life.

COMPOUND

Traditionally tyres have been produced using carbon black and natural rubber. Kumho's latest products contain 'silica', a synthetic compound that increases grip and at the same time reduces rolling resistance, leading to greater tread life.

RIM PROTECTOR

A reinforced flange of rubber that sits just above the wheel rim. It not only helps protect the rim from damage, but prevents air loss if the rim is damaged in a high impact situation.

ROTATE WEAR INDICATORS

Assist the vehicle owner in monitoring and thus increasing tread life. Consists of 6 strategically placed indicators of different depths around the tread. When each wears down it is time to have the tyres rotated and balanced.

MANUFACTURER WARRANTY

All Kumho tyres are applicable to a pro ratal warranty against manufacturing fault.

ROAD HAZARD WARRANTY

The Kumho KU31, KU19, KU21 & 712 Ultra High Performance Tyres carry a 'piece of mind' warranty against tyre damage while under normal conditions. For further details, terms and conditions ask your Kumho Dealer.
